It’s hard to believe that we only have 4 weeks of school left! Our study of worms and soil have launched us into our current exploration of seeds and planting. Last week children planted flower and vegetable seeds and this week we will continue to learn more about the life cycle of plants. We are hoping that our bean “seeds” will start to sprout so that we can plant them later this week.

Tuesday – Living and Non-living Things / Spanish / Music
Wednesday – Field trip to Max’s Woods

Friday – Field Day! 10:00 AM
Join us for a day of fun-filled games and activities at Urban NIrvana Park. Please send a fully disposable lunch (no heat-ups) and a water bottle. Be sure to apply sunscreen before arriving at school. You may send additional sunscreen in a zippered plastic bag for reapplication.

Dear parents,
Inman Park Festival time is upon us and we are now busily preparing for this important community and fund raising event. Festival weekend is a lot of fun and also a lot of work! We ask every family to work at least one shift. A sign-up sheet will be on the door of the elementary school building beginning this afternoon. If your family cannot help, we ask that you please write a  check in the amount of $40 so that we may hire someone to cover your shift.
We will be selling water, doing festival hair and face painting, supervising the playground and participating in the parade._ Everyone _ is encouraged to be in the parade. This year’s theme is “Garden Party” and you will be receiving a separate e-mail regarding costuming and decorating.
Thank you so much for your support and participation. We look forward to working and playing with you all next weekend.

Welcome back!
I hope everyone had a fabulous spring break and is excited about the final two months of school!
We would like to “officially” welcome Aliyah to the K/1 class!!! Aliyah has been transitioning from PreK before spring break and we are excited that she is now with us full-time!
April will be a busy month as we continue our project on worms and discover other things that live and grow underground. Here are a few of the exciting things we’ll be working on this week…
Monday – Nature Rubbings & Drawings in Springvale Park
Tuesday – Writer’s Workshop: Spring Break Adventures!
Wednesday – What else lives underground?
Thursday – A closer look at soil
Friday – Picnic in Urban Nirvana Park (No heat-ups please)
Now that warmer weather has finally arrived, here are a few reminders…
Arrival: Please have your child to school by 8:30 each morning. This is an important time for children to play and socialize before we transition to our classroom.
Water bottles: Please send a water bottle to keep at school. We will be spending more time outdoors and we    want to ensure children remain hydrated!
Sunscreen: Be sure to apply sunscreen to your child each morning before school. If you would like for him/her to keep sunscreen in their backpack for especially sunny days feel free to do so. Please place it inside a plastic zippered bag to prevent leakage.
Toys from home: Please remember that children should not bring toys from home other than a soft, stuffed toy to  cuddle with during Quiet Reading time if they prefer.
Paper Recycling: The K/1 and PreK classes are looking for parent volunteers to help with our paper recycling. If you would like to volunteer to help us take our paper a recycling center every other week, please “reply all” to this email. Ideally, a K/1 family would pick up one week and a PreK family the next on a rotating basis.
Thanks again for EVERYTHING you do!!!!
Wendy

The countdown to Spring Break has begun! Next week we’ll continue to dig into our study of worms. We will expand our investigations to find out how long worms have been on the earth, how worms move, do worms have brains, and how worms see where they are going!

Monday – Diary of a Worm / Art / Math Workshop (Non-standard measurement) / Movement

Tuesday – All About Earthworms! / Writer’s Workshop (If I had a pet worm…) / Spanish / What’s Inside an Earthworm?

Wednesday – Nightcrawlers / Wormery observations & documentation / Tumbling / Math Workshop (Seriation by thickness)

Thursday – Making a Giant Worm / Spanish

Friday – Pajama Day & Read In! (We will spend the morning reading our favorite books with each other and guest readers from the 1/2 and 3/4 classes)
Pizza for lunch! Send a fruit break and drink with your child

Things we need to enrich our project:
Lots and lots of newspaper / masking tape / potting soil / cardboard egg cartons

Kind regards,
Wendy Kelly
