TAS Update

Many exciting things have happened at TAS over the summer. First and foremost I would like to thank Andy Hieb and Rhys Daunic for designing & launching our new website. They’ve done a beautiful job!

We have 12 brand new computers for the students to work on.  Two major software purchases were made.  For grades K-9 we purchased some  hot new math software that is highly recommended by the Council for Teachers of Mathmatics. We also bought licenses which will allow the whole school to use the languauge series called Rosetta Stone for Spanish studies. If you don’t know about it, you can try a demo lesson on their website.  It’s an excellent learning tool.

As you can read below, we are very lucky to have Celeste Miller as a member of our faculty this year.

We’ve added Lisa Knight to our Middle School faculty. She will serve as home room teacher for the 5/6 class and teach math and science to both the 5/6 and 7/8/9 classes. Doug and I will be teaching lit, grammer and writing to both classes. Lisa and Doug will be teaching social studies.

We have a new art teacher named Devora Reiss who will be teaching the 7/8/9 classes art as well as running an aferschool art club beginning in October.

The K/1, 1/2 and 3/4 classes are getting new carpet.

We’ve added a classroom which will serve as a library , a place for tutors to work and  Homework Club headquarters. Former TAS parent and uber Board Member, Grace Van der Wiel is painting it as we speak!

And finally, I’m very proud to say that we have 12 new families joining our school community.

So please plan on attending the New Parents Party and welcoming them.

See you all very soon.

Student Movement

Hi!  I am Celeste Miller and I will be working at the Atlanta School this year bringing dance/movement to the students.  I have been working professionally in the field of dance as a tool for learning for over twenty-five years.  My work is known nationally, and is part of an ever growing body of evidence that shows that the kinesthetic learning mode addresses a wide variety of learners.   In addition, students learn  to build skills in the areas of cooperation, community-building, and also conceptual, creative and expressive thinking.  As you might be gleaning - this dance approach is a little bit different from learning steps!  The students will be engaged as composers of movement that expresses both abstract and conceptual understandings of themselves and the world around them.  I am thrilled to be at The Atlanta School - and am the proud parent of Alexandra McColl who was at TAS for her Middle School years.
