It’s hard to believe that we only have 4 weeks of school left! Our study of worms and soil have launched us into our current exploration of seeds and planting. Last week children planted flower and vegetable seeds and this week we will continue to learn more about the life cycle of plants. We are hoping that our bean “seeds” will start to sprout so that we can plant them later this week.
Monday – A Seed Grows (A study of a plant’s life cycle) / Art / Movement
Tuesday – Living and Non-living Things / Spanish / Music
Wednesday – Field trip to Max’s Woods
Please have your child to school by 9:00 AM. No heat-ups. (Send a complete change of clothing and a towel in a labeled plastic bag. Children should wear sunscreen, a hat, clothing & shoes (not boots) to school that can get muddy and wet.)
Thursday – Bean Sprout Plantings / Spanish / PE
Friday – Field Day! 10:00 AM
Join us for a day of fun-filled games and activities at Urban NIrvana Park. Please send a fully disposable lunch (no heat-ups) and a water bottle. Be sure to apply sunscreen before arriving at school. You may send additional sunscreen in a zippered plastic bag for reapplication.

We are running short on time and we are trying to squeeze a few more trips into our year together!  Here are a few dates to remember with volunteer opportunities also:

*Tuesday or Wednesday morning we need a tall parent to help us hang the moon and stars in our room.  We have the ladder and the tape!  Let us know if you have an extra 15 minutes in the morning and can help out.

*Thursday, May 13- Arabia Mountain-  We need 2 volunteers to hike with us.

*Tuesday, May 18- Max’s Woods- We need 2 volunteers to join us for a hike and playing in the stream.

*Thursday, May 20- Max’s Woods- We need one volunteer to join us for a hike and playing in the stream.

*Tuesday, May 25- Atlanta Activity Center- We need 2 volunteers to join us for a hike.

*Thursday, May 27-28-  Moon Festival and Camp Out in Max’s Woods- We need one parent for each child to join us for a camp out!  If you cannot join us, please let us know.  We plan to sleep in tents and wake up to an easy breakfast.  We will provide lunch for the children on Friday and then return to school by carpool at 1:00.  Your child will not be permitted to stay in aftercare on Friday.   Please watch for more details in future emails, we just wanted you to save the date!

****We need to know who has a tent and who needs to borrow one.  Please let us know in person or respond to this email.

These are photos from this week and a couple from last week.  We have jumped right into our Great Outdoors Unit where the possibilities of exploration are endless!  We hiked in Springvale Park last week and this week we hiked around Orme Park taking plenty of time along the way to investigate animal tracks, leaves, trees, moss and even a BIG earthworm!  Poison ivy has been on everyone’s mind as we all are learning to keep an eye out for it.  Thank you to Matt Dodge for helping out and to ND for sharing his dad!
