K/1 February news
Posted February 5th, 2010 by Stacia FarabeeCategories: K/1
We’ve had an exciting and busy week in K/1. Children made color wheels using primary and secondary colors. We learned that each color has a “complementary” color opposite it on the color wheel.
Children experimented with chromatography (the process of separating colors or pigments) using water soluble markers, coffee filters, and water. They performed a second experiment using black marker and rubbing alcohol to discover the colors that make “black”.
Next week we will be busy with our celebration of Valentine’s by discussing friendship and love, making special Valentine’s Day cards, and preparing for our class party on Friday, February 12th. Please allow your child to make Valentine’s cards for each child in our class and bring them to school on the 12th. Children will pass them out during our party and bring them home to read with you. Encourage your child to write his/her name and the names of others. This will create a more purposeful connection to our celebration and allow them to practice their handwriting skills.
Coming up next week:
Monday – Spivey Hall field trip (Giwayen Mata) $2
Tuesday – 7Stages field trip (Free to Be…You and Me) $8
Wednesday – Color Estimation
Thursday – Classification by Multiple Characteristics
Friday – Valentine’s Celebration

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
Wendy
