The second leg of our 2008-09 goal of completing the entire Georgia portion of the Appalachian Trail within one year has now been completed!  We began our hike on Friday, October 15, 2008, in the drizzle at Hog Pen Gap and walked through clouds for our first night at Low Gap.  The next day we hiked past Brasstown Bald (the highest point in Georgia) to the Blue Mountain shelter.  The sky had cleared, and we ushered in Autumn with a chilly evening, a raging fire, and a clear, star-studded sky.  We ended our second leg the next day with a hike to the top of Blue Mountain followed by the steep descent into Unicoi Gap.  We warmed up at Unicoi Lodge buffet and headed home, 60 miles of the Appalachian Trail now under our belt, and 15 or so miles closer to our goal!

We picked up a few new hikers on this latest journey and are ready and willing to have more when, this coming Spring, we plan to hike into North Carolina from Unicoi Gap.  Keep checking for dates and for a link to photographs from our two trips, and let us know if you want to join our walk in the woods.
