9th Grade at Etowah
Posted September 3rd, 2009 by Stacia FarabeeBeginning their studies of United States History, the 9th Grade class visited the Etowah Native American mounds near Cartersville, Georgia, on September 3, 2009. Questions arose regarding the presence of the Mississippi Mound Builders over 500 years before Hernando de Soto made his appearance on the scene, which was nearly 70 years before Jamestown was established. Nothing like a little perspective. Comparisons were drawn between the Mound Builders of the Southeastern U.S. and the stone-building Inca and Maya of South and Central American. In the picture, Michael is pointing beyond Mound C, a reconstructed burial mound, to the smoke-stacks in the distance, raising important questions about progress, preservation, and balance.
